🎓 Melbourne, Australia

You may know about a couple of universities in Melbourne, but do you know there are nine universities all around Melbourne? 

Each university may have its own entry requirements and scholarship offerings, so it’s important to check the websites carefully to find these details. The costs and entry requirements vary, with some universities being more selective or competitive, and others accepting a higher percentage of applicants. Scholarships are mostly based on academic merit, and there may be some for a region or country, or for a field of study. Australian universities offer limited athletic scholarships for student athletes. 

Do you know… Melbourne, Australia is a city full of sports, music, culture, events, and parks – no wonder it’s rated one of the best student-friendly cities year after year! International students like the multicultural feel, the blend of old and new, fancy and trendy mixed with everyday and affordable, the alleyways and surprises you find as you make your way around the city. The transportation system is very accessible, with trains, trams, buses, and taxis or Ubers all easy to use. Hawaii is the 50th U.S. state, an archipelago, and is a five-hour flight from the US mainland. There are six islands where you might visit for holidays, but you can also study there. With a closely-linked network of universities, community colleges, and English programs, there are plenty of options for your higher education.

In addition, there are many affiliated community colleges, which allow students to start the first two years of study, earning an Associate’s Degree, and then transfer to a four-year university to complete the Bachelor’s degree. Community college is a great way to ease the transition from high school to university, save costs on your education, and make your way into a more competitive university.

🎓 Boston, Massachusetts

There are many different types of universities and colleges within a few hours of Boston, so it’s a good idea to expand your search throughout Massachusetts and the New England region. If you’re focused specifically on the city, you will still find about 24 different institutions, including large universities, colleges, special-focus and faith-based institutions, and technical schools on this list:

Massachusetts is also well-known for its Liberal Arts Colleges. These are the foundation of the American higher education system, offering a broad-based undergraduate education, often across a wide range of subject areas. The idea is to teach students to be critical thinkers, to write and speak clearly, to analyse facts, and to debate effectively – skills that are considered very important in many fields of work. Among these institutions, there are several women’s colleges and some with a religious focus, and most are smaller in size, offering students more personalized attention and opportunities to interact with professors.

Do you know… Boston is a historical city with a busy financial district, many colleges and universities, a diverse population from all over the world, a thriving cultural scene, and the famous Boston Harbor area. The city is very walkable, with the historical Freedom Trail that you can follow by looking at the markings on the ground. In Boston Harbor there are old ships and informational signs that describe some of the history, including the Boston Tea Party. In the middle of the city is a huge park, Boston Common, where you can relax, study, or take a walk. If you’re a sports fan, there is baseball, hockey, basketball, soccer, football, rowing, running, and so much more!

Canberra is the capital of Australia, although it is a very small city often dominated by Sydney and Melbourne. While it may not have the big city vibe, it is a beautiful place to live and study. There are lots of opportunities for outdoor activities around Canberra, from hiking and cycling to skiing or snowboarding in winter. The beaches and the mountains are just a short drive away!

Do you know… The ACT is a territory that is an enclave of New South Wales. Similar to Washington DC in the United States, it was carved out of surrounding states to create a space for the capital city. It is the seat of government, with the Australian Parliament House sitting atop a hill in the middle of the city. It was designed by an American architect, Walter Burley Griffin and his wife, Marion Mahony. The lake in the middle of the city is called Lake Burley Griffin.

Have you heard of Sydney, Australia? Have you seen pictures of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge? You probably know that it is one of the biggest cities in Australia, but do you know about the university options in Sydney and the state of New South Wales? Many Australian universities have several campuses, serving the city and the regional areas, so it’s good to check out the different locations.

Do you know… Sydney is a big sprawling city, but there are many more places to discover in New South Wales. This state is home to beaches and coastal towns, as well as mountains and forests, and a desert landscape in the northwest. If you choose to study here, it’s a great opportunity to get out and explore the many different areas around the state! Within New South Wales, there are two unique territories: Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Jervis Bay. The ACT is home to the capital of Australia – Canberra (and two more universities – Australian National University and University of Canberra). Jervis Bay is a territory on the coast of NSW, dominated by a national park and lots of beautiful beach areas.
